Happy Youth Day

THE BATTLE - A POEM FOR YOUTH DAY, SOUTH AFRICA

The Battle – A Poem for Youth Day

I am too young to remember
Yet I have inherited this.
I played no part as an innocent child,
But I must face the consequences.

Because the wounds have not healed.
We try to make it better,
But the hurt, the bitterness, runs so deep.
Sometimes it feels like we’re fighting a losing battle.

It is an undeserved part that we play
In trying to undo the injustice.
It is a burden, a sorrowful load
That we never asked to carry on our shoulders.

As the youth of the new millennium
We do not have the experience, the memories
To guide or hinder us on our journey –
We see the world through untainted eyes.

And yet we feel it, we feel it every day.
We sense the anger and the pain.
The blood spilt has dyed society,
It is a dark shadow, always in the back of our minds.

And yet, there is hope;
A light shines that cannot be put out.
It has burned throughout the dark night of the past,
And continues to give courage to the youth today.

Because to those who are brave enough,
To those who know that they must stand up and fight,
The future has been given –
They are the inheritors of the rainbow nation.

The journey will not be an easy one,
Its nature is such that it will not be over quickly.
But as soldiers we accept the challenge –
Together we stand, together we can be victorious.

We accept the past as part of our history,
Yet we do not live by it.
Forming new links and relationships every day,
We find strength in our shared humanity.

As children of Africa, united,
The burden becomes lighter.
The future has been handed to us
And it is a bright one.

Happy Mother's Day

"Happy Mother's Day" means more
Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say

It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.

But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.

Word of the Month: Cultivate

Networking is not a new generation concept, but a very ancient Biblical concept. Networking is relational, connecting and bridge-building. Networking is the relational work that is done on a genuinely consistent basis, creating those invisible, but powerful connections that invite skills sharing, value-adding ideas and creativity - and trading of services which can ultimately result in new business and greater profitability. This is the essence of how we CULTIVATE our business (and other) relationships for long-term growth.

What I do believe is that you’ll remember those moments in your life when you were fully involved, fully belonging and fully appreciated, those moments when you gave yourself  completely to whatever it was you were doing. You will see those times for what they were – times when you were fully alive! ~ Robert Sieger

CULTIVATING your team starts with having a vision and a sense of purpose that is far bigger than something you are able to achieve on your own. To CULTIVATE your business requires having a spirit of generosity, of being aware of how you can deposit good seed into good soil of the people in your team. To CULTIVATE is based on the law of sowing and reaping. If you help others support their God-given dream and vision, God will help you build yours.

You will find, as you look back upon life, that the moments that stand out are the moments  when you have done things for others. ~ Henry Drummond

To CULTIVATE is to make heart-to-heart connections and build your networks around relationships rather than focusing solely on the returns you will get. Good CULTIVATION demands working with a good code of ethics, treating everyone courteously, running your business professionally and with great integrity. Essentially networking is about treating people the way you wish to be treated.

Begin with the end in mind. Where you would like to see yourself finishing is the clue as to where you need to sow, how you nourish, nurture and CULTIVATE to reap an abundant harvest. So go out and CULTIVATE your network, your team, your relationships and your success!
